Monday Motivation: Be Open to Opportunity

The past week has brought my attention back to the idea of openness and what it creates for us in life, in love and in our careers. I’ve had the chance to meet a lot of new people in recent months in both my personal life with new friends and my professional life as a nutrition coach and teacher. With those new people have come new challenges, and with new challenges come new opportunities. Rather than closing myself off to things because I fear that I won’t be able to handle them or I won’t have enough time to tackle all of the tasks that mayfollow, I decided to change my mind and to remain OPEN to the opportunities.

Perception is everything.

I’m a firm believer in the idea that your perception of a situation changes everything, and in turn, changes what may further enter into your life. By creating a simple shift in my perspective on what has been in my life, and remaining focused on that for which I am grateful rather than focusing on what was not happening for me, I released my mind and moved forward to allow what would happen to be as it would be. Within 24 hours the momentum and direction of everything I had been thinking about made positive shifts. “When you [are thankful] in advance for that which you choose to experience in your reality, you, in effect, acknowledge that it is there, in effect. Thankfulness is thus the most powerful statement.” – Neale Donald Walsh.

Be open or new things cannot enter into your life.

The idea of remaining open is true for new people as well as for new opportunities. If you are looking for a new relationship, having a positive mental attitude and an outlook that shows others that you are open and available will leave others no choice but to be drawn to that energy. If you are looking for new business opportunities, similarly, maintaining an open, positive and curious mind will allow such things to come your way.

The universe knows what you want and it will only give you what you feel in your heart that you deserve.

Some call this The Law of Attraction, some call it “the power of positive thinking.” Whatever you want to call it, make it happen for yourself, from the inside, from a place of honesty, truth and love within and you’ll reap the rewards many times over.

Enjoy & be well!

  1. Hey Diane,

I’m happy you’ve opened up to new opportunities, and things are going well. I agree with everything you’ve written above, and can’t emphasize enough how right you are!

We often hear about how important it is to have a positive attitude, what’s interesting is no one ever talks about HOW you get there. It’s all very easy to say, “Be open”, or “Change your attitude”, etc. But I think a lot of people miss the idea that having a positive attitude is as much a skill as double-unders or muscle-ups and requires as much work as changing your diet from the SAD to Paleo.

Being open-minded and looking at everything life throws at you in a positive manner isn’t something most people are born with. It takes work. A lot of work, and it’s really difficult at times. But the rewards are SO worth it.

So, how does one get there? I think there are a lot of ways to get there. I got there by reading a lot of books. Some were “self-help” books, some were psychology books, and some were just the biographies of extremely successful people. Some of the books I’ve read several times in order for the lessons to sink in. But after each book, I would pick one tidbit of information that seemed easy to implement, and I’d work on that one aspect of my personality until I felt like I “got it”. Then I’d move one to another aspect.

The most important piece of wisdom I’ve picked up thus far is the idea that you can not, no matter how hard you try, change another person. You can only change yourself and your view of another person or event. If you can conquer that, you’ll open up a whole new world of opportunities for yourself :)

    Thanks for a great read!
    Paul

  2. Beautifully said. I am a firm believer in the law of attraction and I see it every single day in my life. Being grateful daily (I write in a journal nightly) I have been able to get through rather difficult times in my life. Gratitude is King when it comes to living a happy, healthy, vibrant lifestyle.

  3. nicely written, this all makes sense to me, always have, thought I do find it difficult to follow at times…

  4. funny how ppl will doubt it, and question whether positive thinking/ affirmations work!!
well, just try the opposite, and tell yourself you can’t do something, or that it’s not possible, and see what happens!
if negative affirmations work, why would’nt positive ones?? because they are too good to be true?? LOL.
