Hi Pink Conga,

I might have practitioners to recommend in your area if you contact me via the Balanced Bites contact page. Alternatively, you can check out Primal Docs and The Paleo Physician's Network.

Thank you! I will look into the coaching. I just wish you were closer! I just have a hard time doing something that is not face to face. It is very tempting though. I am so fed up with regular dr. practices and do not feel I am getting the right anwswers. Just band aides. Which i hate! Thank you! I will definatley look into this!!

Hi Pink Conga,

I recommend you consider consulting with a holistic/integrative/or functional health practitioner (including considering a chiropractor). They should investigate WHY you are not absorbing iron and why you are experiencing constipation. I work 1:1 with clients via Balanced Bites. You can find more about me here: http://balancedbites.com/one-o.....e-coaching. Keep us posted!

There has to be a reason I am not absorbing. But like I said I am eating all the needed things for an iron rich diet. Im looking into the digestion issues and articles mentioned. My dr. cannot offer any advice on this and I know there has to be a correlation!!

I haven't looked into this, but are there any cofactors needed for absorbing iron? Or is there food/nutrients that can prevent the absorption of iron?

Thanks again for the info. I will look into this! Im embarrased to say my Dr. has me on Miralax every day and the iron pill for anemia. I dont really know where to turn but here. These things are not fixing any of my problems!! I'm still not regular with the Miralax! Its a terrible cycle! And the iron pills add to the problem. Is there a kind of Dr. or nutritionist you could reccomend. I've been dealing with this for so long and it is so painful and uncomfortable!!

Hi Pink Conga,

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation! Katie provided a great resource and I just wanted to add that regardless of the hows and why's, it's always a great idea to do everything you can to improve digestion so you can absorb the nutrients all all that great food you are eating. I too see a lot of clients with anemia type issues despite the fact that they are eating plenty of iron rich foods. I will also note that I've not once had a client with perfect digestion, regardless of what they think. A lot of people do not recognize less than optimal digestion because they have been living that way all their lives or changes happened slowly. That said, they are not absorbing their nutrients.

I highly recommend Practical Paleo if you don't have it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ.....1936608758. The section on digestion is very approachable and easy to grasp. Also check out Diane's articles, posts, and podcasts on the subject: http://balancedbites.com/healt.....-digestion.

Especially this article: http://balancedbites.com/2012/.....-less.html.

Of course these recommendations are not a substitute for medical advice.

Happy New Year!

Best,

Thank you!!! Any help is much appriciated! I did this past surgery thinking it would solve the problem. But,..nope!! Then what I get from my dr is i may just have to supplement with iron for the rest of my life. NOT the answer I want to hear. I just feel there has to be something else. I will check out the link. Thank you so much!!

Hi Pink Conga, Don't cry! :)
Anemia is a tricky and complicated matter, a lot more involved than just looking at the hemoglobin, and iron supplementation is not always the answer. I assume you've had a full CBC and Iron studies to determine what kind of anemia you're dealing with? We are unable to offer professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment within the forums, however I'd point you to Chris Kresser as a great resource. Check out this link where he discusses the intricacies of anemia at length (toward the bottom). I hope this helps. http://chriskresser.com/rhr-te.....out-anemia

OK, I'm going to cry here! Please help!! I have had a history of anemia through hemoglobin. I eat healthy, exercise and supplement with what I think I should. I actually just had a partial hysterectomy to help solve the problem. 6 weeks after the surgery I was off the iron pills. First time in over 3 years I bet! Then I started to get symptoms again so I had my blood drawn. Guess what! ANEMIC AGAIN!!! Any advice? Ideas? I just don't know what to do and iron supplements are NOT fun!! My Dr. says maybe I will have to supplement the rest of my life!! There has to be a reason I am not absorbing the iron!! Please help!!
