Here are some meals and restaurants I ate at during trips to Portland!


Cultured Caveman
  • What began as a humble Paleo food truck kickstarter has become a brick & mortar hub for amazing gatherings. Nom fest at Cultured Caveman in Portland! So proud of what Heather & Joe have created.
    Many portions of Buffalo chicken fingers (breaded in seasoned coconut flour and fried in tallow!), salmon poke, and some chicken finger wraps.

  • This meal was from December 2014 when I was touring for Mediterranean Paleo Cooking. We had the wild salmon poke, chicken tenders, and more!

Departure
  • There are no words for how amazing this meal was at Departure. Chef Gregory Gourdet and his team in the kitchen are so fantastic. This wasn’t even every plate!! Over 10 dishes and 3 desserts split among 7 of us…all gluten and nut free!

Depature PDX

  • This sushi at Departure was life-changing. I’ve never had a roll without fish in it that I loved so much (one of these had crab, but the other was only veg I think!) I don’t entirely know what was in these since we didn’t order from the menu (Chef @gg30000 sent out a sampling of what he thought we’d love), but one had asparagus and avocado, and the other had some kind of mushrooms on top. Both had such amazing sauces that I didn’t even need the Tamari they brought us for dipping.

  • This photo was from December 2014 when Chef Gregory prepared a delicious meal (Featured below. Photo by Holly Morello) for us at Departure while we were on the Mediterranean Paleo Cooking book tour. It was totally a fan girl moment.

Hot Lips Pizza
  • Team Balanced Bites stopped for gluten-free Hot Lips Pizza in the Ecotrust building (where we had our LIVE Balanced Bites Podcast event) after a quick hike. We shared 3 pies and had a bunch of Brew Dr Kombucha as well.

Mother’s Bistro & Bar
  • Brunch with about half of Team Balanced Bites at Mother’s Bistro & Bar. Three of us had Greek frittatas (yes! with feta!), one a sando and salad, and Scott had the corned beef & cabbage plate. ALL with gluten-free toast, some French press coffee, bacon, and lots of great conversation.

Ox
  • Everything we had at Ox was Ah. May. ZING. For a restaurant that does meat so perfectly, their veggies are somehow even BETTER and almost steal the show. This salad was our starter and we couldn’t have loved it more. Endive and radicchio, brûléed pear, manchego cheese, chorizo, chives, and Marcona almonds (on the side since I’m allergic) – beautifully seasoned with a sherry vinaigrette. My second time dining here and it does not disappoint!

Por Que No
  • TACO PARTY! An amazing meal on a cold and rainy day in Portland at Por Que No Taqueria with Team Balanced Bites.

Teote
  • Scott and I visited Teote with a couple members of Team Balanced Bites – bowls of delicious pork belly and other goodness. Plus, a Topo Chico for me!
