I was first inspired to try making soft-boiled eggs at home after eating the seriously delicious gluten-free avocado toast from Jane here in San Francisco. My first attempt was just a tad overcooked (no runny yolks!), but I'm happy to say after a couple of tries I nailed it and was able to enjoy a couple of perfect soft boiled eggs on top of my open-faced sandwich for lunch that day! And now I want to eat them on everything!
5-Minute Soft Boiled Eggs (Runny Yolks!)
grain-free • gluten-free • nut-free • seed-free • dairy-free • nightshade-free • fodmap-free
PREP TIME: 5 minutes (+ 1 minute for the eggs to rest at the end)
COOK TIME: 5 minutes
SERVINGS: 1-2
- 2 eggs
- warm water
- iced water
- boiling water
preparation:
Prepare 2 bowls of water – one with the iced water (the ice bath) and one with warm water. Place 2 eggs into the bowl with warm water.
Fill a medium saucepan with boiling water – you'll want to fill it about 2/3 full. Return the water to a boil. Or, if you don't have an electric kettle, you can bring the water to a boil in the saucepan.
Carefully add the eggs to the boiling water and boil for 5 minutes. Then move the eggs to the ice bath and wait 1 minute.
Remove the eggs and peel them. Enjoy any way you please! I love to ‘crack' mine over gluten-free toast with a little Kasandrinos Lakonia Spice sprinkled on top. (use the code balancedbites for a 15% discount on your order!)

Thank you for making this video! It mates the technique so easy…and my two year old daughter loves them!
Hi, great recipe! You can also put them in an egg cup cut off the top and use steamed asparagus spears to dip into the egg with a little pink sea salt for a grain free alternative. I love eggs and never tire of them . I’m always interested in any recipes I come across, eggs have been such a lifesaver since I started Paleo.😀

Love it!
If you refrigerate the soft boiled eggs will the consistency still be softer but won’t be “runny”?

Yes.
